LASA Opens a Rolling Call for Registered Research Initiatives

Scope of the Call

LASA welcomes proposals in the following areas:

• Science and technology, including health, computing and environmental sciences;
• Arts and culture, including creative practice and cultural heritage;
• Policy-relevant research, including governance, regulation and societal impact;
• Education and youth engagement.

Interdisciplinary submissions are encouraged, particularly where the proposed project has a clearly defined question, method, intended outcome and wider academic, cultural, educational or societal relevance.

What Approved Initiatives Receive

Following completion of the registration process, approved initiatives receive:

• A LASA registration number in the format LASA-RRI-YYYY-NNN;
• A formal certificate of registration;
• A project-summary listing on the LASA website;
• Inclusion, where relevant, in LASA communications and annual reporting.

Registration confirms that the project has completed LASA’s applicable review and registration process. It does not constitute scientific validation, accreditation or endorsement of the project’s methods, findings or conclusions.

Application Materials

Applicants should submit the following materials:

Project summary — maximum 1,500 words

The summary should include:

• Project title;
• Name, affiliation and contact details of the principal investigator or investigators;
• Research question and objectives;
• Brief description of the proposed methodology;
• Expected outcomes and significance;
• Proposed project timeline.

A project period of 6 to 24 months is suggested.

Short curriculum vitae

A curriculum vitae of no more than two pages should be provided for each principal investigator.

Optional letter of support

Applicants may include a letter of support from a collaborating institution or professional colleague.

Rolling Review and Fees

Proposals are reviewed on a rolling basis. The typical review period is six to eight weeks, although additional information may be requested where necessary. Decisions are communicated by email.

There is no fee to apply for or participate in the Registered Research Initiatives programme.

Important Limits of Registration

LASA does not currently provide research funding through RRI. The programme provides institutional registration, documentation and public visibility rather than financial support. Any future funding programme would be announced separately through the official LASA website.

RRI registration does not constitute:

• Employment or an employment relationship with LASA;
• Ethical or institutional approval;
• Visa sponsorship;
• Degree conferral;
• Professional or formal accreditation;
• Government endorsement;
• Endorsement of research findings or conclusions.

Applicants and project investigators remain responsible for obtaining all ethical, institutional, legal, financial and regulatory approvals required for their work.
