Afsheen Raza Recognised at the 2026 MENA Congress for Rare Diseases

Afsheen Raza, LASA Foreign Member, received the Outstanding Achievement in Rare‑Disease Researcher Award at the 2026 Fifth MENA Congress for Rare Diseases held in Abu‑Dhabi. As Associate Professor and director of Abu Dhabi University Cancer Research Institute, she was honoured at the three‑day event focused on rare‑disease science and treatment. LASA congratulates Dr Raza on her achievement.

Afsheen Raza, Foreign Member of the Luxembourg Academy of Sciences and Arts (LASA), was recognised in the Researcher category of the Awards for Outstanding Achievement in Rare Diseases at the Fifth MENA Congress for Rare Diseases 2026.

The congress took place in Abu Dhabi from 3 to 5 September 2026, bringing together more than 1,500 participants and over 140 speakers for three days of scientific exchange on rare-disease research and care. Its programme addressed subjects including diagnosis, novel therapies, genomics and multi-omics, artificial intelligence, gene therapy, clinical trials and access to advanced treatment.

Dr Raza is Associate Professor of Molecular Biology and Director of the Abu Dhabi University Cancer Research Institute. The institute supports interdisciplinary and translational research aimed at advancing personalised cancer care and strengthening collaboration among biomedical researchers and clinical specialists.

The recognition was announced by the Emirates News Agency in its report on the opening of the congress.

LASA congratulates Dr Raza on this recognition and wishes her continued success in research and interdisciplinary scientific collaboration.
